Post Secondary Scholarships and Sponsorships

MVSA Scholarships and Sponsorships for High School Seniors

MVSA wants to recognize its student athletes who have made significant contributions in high school academics and athletics. Scholarships and sponsorship grants are available to qualified applicants, to be used for college expenses or for participation in post-high school activities such as the Minnesota High School Senior All Star Series. MVSA players may apply for both a scholarship and a sponsorship.

Requests from members are reviewed and approved by the MVSA board. No funds for scholarships and sponsorships come from members' registration fees. Instead, funding is from sources such as gate fees for tournaments, concessions, field rental, and donations.

Each year, the MVSA board of directors approves a total amount for the scholarships and sponsorships. This amount cannot exceed the non-registration fee income from the prior year. One-time grants up to $500 can be made. If requests from qualified applicants exceed the annual budget total, then the total budget will be divided among the qualified candidates.

Eligibility for Scholarship
A candidate must:

  • have been an MVSA member in good standing for the past three years
  • be academically eligible
  • play high school softball in her senior year of high school
  • have been involved with youth clinics, coaching, and/or umpiring during her MVSA career (and not just in her senior year)
  • have applied and been accepted to a post secondary school

How to Apply for a MVSA Post Secondary Scholarship or for the All Star Series Sponsorship

An application form is made available to qualified players.  For scholarships, send the application, copy of your secondary acceptance letter and one page letter of why you should be considered for the MVSA's scholarship program to the MVSA Board of Directors by April 15. The board will review all requests and notify applicants whether their requests were approved and for what dollar amount. Whenever possible, the checks will be presented to recipients at their high school softball banquets and/or high school scholarship awards ceremonies. For sponsorships, submit the application as soon as the opportunity becomes available (such as being named to a Minnesota High School Senior All Star Series team).

Please include with the application a one page letter of why you should be considered for the MVSA's scholarship program.  This will be read at the May board of directors meeting.
