Big Ten Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Minnesota softball senior Erica Meyer was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Meyer became the first Gopher to earn the honor since April of 2013 when Tyler Walker took it home. She shares the plaudit with Michigan junior Kelsey Susalla.

The selection was the first of its kind for Meyer, a 2014 NFCA All-Great Lakes Region selection.

Meyer led the Gophers offensively in their 5-0 weekend at Arizona State's Diamond Devil Invitational, where Minnesota met four teams that combined for a 139-74-1 record last season.

The Arden Hills, Minn. native hit .600 with a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.400 slugging percentage. She had at least one hit and one run in each game and had two runs in four of five games. Meyer homered in each of the tournament's first three games and doubled in the weekend's last three games.

For the weekend, Meyer led or tied for the Big Ten lead in slugging percentage, runs, doubles, home runs and total bases, was second in the conference in batting average and was in the top three for hits and on-base percentage. She did not strike out in 15 at bats and was successful in her only steal attempt.

Minnesota had two weekly conference awards following the first week of the season when Sara Groenewegen won Big Ten Pitcher of the Week and Danielle Parlich was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week.

The Gophers pick up play with five games at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla. this weekend.
